New Tech

Angel Reyes      New Technology Assignment             Social media is constantly evolving in today’s day in age. Apps are made every day and pretty soon there will be an app for anything you could possibly need, even though there almost already is. With the recent news of Facebook and how they have been selling our personal information I can see security being a top priority in the future. I can also see how AR is growing and getting better, so maybe AR will surpass the need for security. Although the two points I’ve made have great value, I think that after all is said and done we will still want that need for competition.             I know personally that I am a competitive person and if I can compete against someone I want to win. Competition breeds innovation and excitement and that is why I believe that including Gamification into social med...

United Breaks Guitars

United Breaks Guitars             Well here we are again, I have never heard about Dave Carroll or his band but the discussion today on how United Airlines mishandled his luggage is quite hysterical. Guitars can get quite expensive and if an airline is mishandling your guitars it can make you get pretty angry. In this case we are told that Dave writes to United about his concern and never receives an apology. We are also told that United is infamous for their terrible customer service, which for such a successful company makes you wonder why. Dave writes a song about United and it gets a lot of attention, probably first from his immediate fan-base and then later to the rest of the world. Crazy how a well written and executed song from a semi-famous guitarist can cause so much controversy.             The power of social media is yet again shown in this c...

Ok Go

Personally, I don’t listen to “OK Go” but the fact that they made a video on a plane with zero gravity, and made it choreographed is insane! I noticed that something the band strives for is challenging themselves. They challenged themselves by making a video on a plane, but they didn’t just want to do lots of random things on the plane and just edit the whole thing together. They made sure the video had a purpose, since they make music without a music video in mind it really needed to follow the flow of the song. Once they had the idea it needed to be funded and they got a Russian airline to fund it. Some pretty cool facts about the actual process can be found here .             One of my main findings on number of video view was how YouTube and Facebook count a view. I found out that YouTube counts a view of a video after the video has been watched for 30 seconds...

Miracle Mattress

I honestly can’t believe that a company would make a video like the one I saw from Miracle Mattress. Although I can see how this company, or at least the 3 employees in the video, would try to view 9/11 as a business opportunity it did not resonate well with society.             In class, we have been talking a lot about how anything you put up on the internet will be there forever. This includes the video that was made by Miracle Mattress, as you can see here the video isn’t officially owned by whoever posted it. They had to record the video on a separate device that was playing the video. What I can understand is the possibility of growth for a business and using current seasons and holidays to their advantage. The issue was that the world, at least the U.S, doesn’t see 9/11 as a holiday or even a positive remembrance. This company tried to use 9/11 as a holida...

And the Lord Sayeth, Ponderize

It is interesting to me how people say that “money makes the world go round” and others say “money can’t buy happiness”, but I’m sure the people that stated those quotes were trying to make money from those quotes or outside of those quotes. The point I am trying to make is that no matter who you are you are always seeking ways to make more money, and in this case it was a religious leader. I for one am not Mormon but have attended general conference before with some friends that allowed me to tag along. The talks given at general conference are strong, and empowering to those who stay awake to hear them. When I heard about the Ponderize case I found it odd, it did seem like a good lesson to teach others but it seemed like it had a different meaning behind it. Here you can view the speech in full, where from the moment the speech starts you get a sense of money and how to make it. I was never aware of what happens after a general conference but apparently many members begin using wha...

God gets 10%, Why should you get 18%

Oh Pastor Bell, is 6 extra dollars to a 35 dollar meal really too much for Applebees to ask? I have heard that if you can’t afford to leave a tip than you shouldn’t go out for dinner. Looking at it from a scholarly view it is not legal, in most states, to apply a mandatory tip to any meal. For example, here in Utah a mandatory tip is not legal. I know that whenever I go out to dinner I will not be charged a mandatory tip, but my wife once was a waitress and has explained to me the need of getting a good tip. In states where tips are not mandatory, but allowed to be given to employees, employees are payed $2.13 an hour. A low amount, but since they are allowed to accept tips both the hourly wage and tips must amount to the minimum wage of $7.25 and hour. If the minimum wage is not met than the owner of the establishment must compensate the employees to meet the minimum amount, you can read more about it here .   On a personal note I just want to say that I have never worked at...

Anthony Weiner

We have discussed in class that anything you put on the internet is open for the world to see. I know that if I want to find out more about someone I can simply google them and likely find a Facebook profile or another platform that will tell me more about them. By simply looking up Anthony Weiner we can learn many things about him. A well-established political figure that belongs to the democratic party, but a certain blemish seems to take over Anthony’s name. Anthony was proven guilty for a sexting scandal in September of 2017. When the scandal first surfaced Anthony denied everything, but it was later noticed that he used Twitter to send the inappropriate messages. Since Twitter has access to anything anybody sends it was dug up and the media had evidence of the allegation, Anthony is now serving 21 months in federal prison. https://www.cnn.com/2017/09/25/politics/anthony-weiner-sentencing/index.html              ...

Online Reputation, Mr. Mckae Nielsen

Image
Online Reputation Mckae Nielsen Scouring the web in search for Mckae Nielsen, it wasn’t the hardest thing to do actually. Mckae was one of the first people to come up when I searched his name on google. I think a big reason for it is because he is from Utah and Cache Valley, and my laptop knows my location. When I first found Mckae I looked up his Facebook page and that gave me a lot of information right off the gate.             First, what stood out to me was that he was into music. His cover photo on Facebook is him singing in what looks to be at a venue. He is the one with the microphone so he is obviously a singer in the band, whether he is the lead singer is still a mystery to me. I found out that the type of music he likes is heavy metal/ scream-o. The reason I say heavy metal is because the type of music he shares on Twitter is heavy metal, and another type of music he shared was scream-o. I’m not too sure abo...

Basketball Cop

Basketball Cop Good cop, bad cop. A police officer always has a choice on how to react to a given situation, they can affect this situation in a positive or negative way. Police officers will hopefully follow the law and abide by the rules they are sworn to, or they can allow their personal beliefs and opinions to take command of how they react. In this particular situation, Officer White reacted to a certain situation in a positive way and in a way we see fitting to the law. Could the boys playing on the street really have been causing so much noise that a neighbor had to call the police to get them to stop? Possibly, but playing a game of basketball is not a crime especially not in the middle of the day. This video is inspiring due to how the officer reacted to the situation, but also because this Caucasian male police officer didn’t put a label on kids that were African-American. This video sparked a movement that is now known as the Basketball Cop Foundation. https://www.basket...
