United Breaks Guitars

United Breaks Guitars

Well here we are again, I have never heard about Dave Carroll or his band but the discussion today on how United Airlines mishandled his luggage is quite hysterical. Guitars can get quite expensive and if an airline is mishandling your guitars it can make you get pretty angry. In this case we are told that Dave writes to United about his concern and never receives an apology. We are also told that United is infamous for their terrible customer service, which for such a successful company makes you wonder why. Dave writes a song about United and it gets a lot of attention, probably first from his immediate fan-base and then later to the rest of the world. Crazy how a well written and executed song from a semi-famous guitarist can cause so much controversy.
The power of social media is yet again shown in this case, where the song is posted to YouTube. It gets a massive amount of attention and it screams bad news for United. By the time United tries to correct their wrong it is too late and United loses millions in revenue because of it. The funny thing is that it doesn’t stop there. We later find out that United overbooked a number of flights and forcefully removes passengers from the planes. I remember hearing that United offered them financial compensation if they agreed to exit the flight, but most people didn’t want that. Many of the apprehensions were recorded and shared on social media, making United the center of negative attention for two years straight, other occasions can be viewed here. Personally, this is a huge hit that United had to endure and the funny thing is that I don’t remember how they handled the situation. I’m pretty sure they did their apologies behind the scenes, which I find odd because I would’ve like to see how United took action. It would’ve given me a better view on United instead of being that airline that dragged an Asian doctor off on of their flights.

  1. I liked that you note you would have liked to see how United took action instead of them doing it out of public view. Great post!
