New Technology Assignment

            Social media is constantly evolving in today’s day in age. Apps are made every day and pretty soon there will be an app for anything you could possibly need, even though there almost already is. With the recent news of Facebook and how they have been selling our personal information I can see security being a top priority in the future. I can also see how AR is growing and getting better, so maybe AR will surpass the need for security. Although the two points I’ve made have great value, I think that after all is said and done we will still want that need for competition.

            I know personally that I am a competitive person and if I can compete against someone I want to win. Competition breeds innovation and excitement and that is why I believe that including Gamification into social media will be a big technological advancement. Right now Nike is doing a very good job with their Nike+ app where users can post their achievements and their friends will be notified, breeding competition. Not only Nike but Pokemon Go is an app that also shows gamification, it is a social app that you and your friends can play but you are trying to capture the best pokemon out there. Fortnite, a video game, recently came out with their game in an app completely taking the world by storm. Not only could you play Fornite on your console but you can also play on your mobile device, and what is better is that you can sync your profiles to both, allowing you to make progress to your profile. Currently Fortnite is blowing everything out of the water and is constantly trending on all social media platforms, but the beauty of it is that its free! How can a free app that uses zero ads make any money? In app purchases, the game is free to play but for a small fee of $10 you can get the battle pass and gain access to weekly challenges, different skins for your character, and different emotes that your player uses to express themselves on the battlefield. Everything comes at a price, so what you do is pay for VBucks and then that allows you to buy different things in the game.

Gamification is going to change the way social media works at some point and I believe it will be in the way Nike, Pokemon, and Fortnite are doing things right now. We all love to compete and since we seek to make friends and money this type of social media is on the rise and is a new technology that will soon be at the top.
