Online Reputation, Mr. Mckae Nielsen

Image
Online Reputation Mckae Nielsen Scouring the web in search for Mckae Nielsen, it wasn’t the hardest thing to do actually. Mckae was one of the first people to come up when I searched his name on google. I think a big reason for it is because he is from Utah and Cache Valley, and my laptop knows my location. When I first found Mckae I looked up his Facebook page and that gave me a lot of information right off the gate.             First, what stood out to me was that he was into music. His cover photo on Facebook is him singing in what looks to be at a venue. He is the one with the microphone so he is obviously a singer in the band, whether he is the lead singer is still a mystery to me. I found out that the type of music he likes is heavy metal/ scream-o. The reason I say heavy metal is because the type of music he shares on Twitter is heavy metal, and another type of music he shared was scream-o. I’m not too sure abo...

Basketball Cop

Basketball Cop Good cop, bad cop. A police officer always has a choice on how to react to a given situation, they can affect this situation in a positive or negative way. Police officers will hopefully follow the law and abide by the rules they are sworn to, or they can allow their personal beliefs and opinions to take command of how they react. In this particular situation, Officer White reacted to a certain situation in a positive way and in a way we see fitting to the law. Could the boys playing on the street really have been causing so much noise that a neighbor had to call the police to get them to stop? Possibly, but playing a game of basketball is not a crime especially not in the middle of the day. This video is inspiring due to how the officer reacted to the situation, but also because this Caucasian male police officer didn’t put a label on kids that were African-American. This video sparked a movement that is now known as the Basketball Cop Foundation. https://www.basket...

PayPal vs. Negative Comments

Deleting Comments When should companies start deleting negative comments on their social media page? This question can see two sides, one from the companies view and one as the consumers. Back in 2011 PayPal was mentioned on Forbes and they wanted to let their followers know about it. What PayPal got in return was hundreds of negative comments that had nothing to do with what they posted about. In class we have talked a lot about how anything you put up online is open for the world to see. At the moment the world of PayPal was not looking at the Forbes article, instead they were looking at how PayPal was treating Regretsy, more importantly, the words they used. You can checkout the story here https://www.digitaltrends.com/computing/paypal-freezes-regretsys-account-for-needy-children/ giving a detailed explanation of the situation. It was known that PayPal was not happy with Regretsy and was taking back money that they had wanted to be donated. This caused an outrage and soci...

Nestle "Funner Menu Option"

“Funner Menu Option” I always knew I loved the “Crunch” candy bar, and for a good reason. Nestle, back in 2009 created a “Funner Menu Option” when you called the company for customer service. This was quite the bold move, but I can also see how this could’ve accidently gotten a lot of attention. What was most likely just a fun add-on to contacting the customer service line to Nestle made them all the buzz in 2009. What I mainly noticed was how people that tried to listen to the “Funner Menu Option” had to call back multiple times before their call could even go through. Through my research I found lots of different pages that are like “Reddit”. Pages that allow people to share comments and have them compile in a ladder like page. Today, these pages are not as popular as other forms of social media, but back in 2009 these pages were all the rage. The amount of people that were exposed to the phone number was, most likely, huge. Most of the comments on the page noted that they coul...

The Death of Tom Petty

The Death of Tom Petty Angel Reyes In today’s day in age it is very important for the media to be the first to report about something. One of the biggest resources that companies use is social media, the reason being because it is fast and society uses it 24/7. The problem with being the first to say something is that you may not always be 100% correct. In October of 2017, Tom Petty was found non-responsive in his home in California. Once word got out it was off to the races, media companies quickly posted that Tom Petty had died that day in his home, but Tom Petty was not confirmed dead, he was just unresponsive. There was a lot of misconception on who was right about Tom Petty, the world wanted to know the truth. Later that day word finally got out that Tom Petty was confirmed dead, but why were people saying he was dead hours before he had actually died? Media companies want to be first, they want to be the company that gives you what you want to hear the moment it happ...
